Public comment sought on hazardous waste plan

Public comment is being taken now on Clallam County’s draft hazardous-waste management plan.

The plan was released for comment Friday, and comments will be accepted through Monday, Feb. 27.

Clallam County Environmental Health and the city of Port Angeles, working with the Clallam County Solid Waste Advisory Committee, rewrote the county hazardous waste management plan that was adopted in 1991.

The final plan will be an appendix to the Clallam County Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan.

The draft proposal addresses the six required program elements, which are household collection, household and public education, small-business technical assistance, small-business collection assistance, enforcement and used-oil education and collection.

Strategic goals and programs, with estimated costs, are listed.

The draft plan can be found at www.clallam.net/boards/SWAC.

Comments can be emailed to jgarcelon@co.clallam.wa.us or sent by U.S. mail to Jennifer Garcelon, 223 E. Fourth St., Suite 14, Port Angeles, WA 98362.
