SEQUIM — Like the nation, this city will have a new boss come January.
Sequim will have a permanent city manager around the first of the year if this weekend goes as planned.
First, the three finalists for the job will meet members of the public during a reception from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Friday, at the Transit Center, 190 W. Cedar St.
The Sequim City Council had chosen four finalists, but one has withdrawn his name.
The city will not release the candidates’ names until today’s meeting.
Sequim Human Resources Manager Kathy Brown, in declining to provide the names, cited Washington state law that exempts such information from public disclosure.
“People need to come to the reception and meet the candidates,” Brown said Wednesday. Light refreshments will be served.
Sequim area residents will be encouraged to ask questions of the hopefuls.
On Saturday, the three will go through interviews with the City Council, city department heads and a panel of community members, and take tours of Sequim.
If the City Council agrees on a preferred candidate, contract negotiations will get under way on Sunday, with hopes of bringing the new manager on board around Jan. 1.
