Public’s help sought in locating suspect in Forks homicide

FORKS — Police are seeking the public’s assistance in finding a suspect in the murder of a Forks woman.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Moises Ramirez-Matias, 25 — who also goes by the alias of Dario Ramirez Moises — for investigation of murder in the first degree in the stabbing death of Laranda Konopaski, 18, of Forks, said Forks Police Sgt. Ed Klahn.

“The warrant is statewide and national,” Klahn said.

Ramirez-Matias, who authorities said has a Guatemalan background, is 5 feet tall, weighs 110 pounds and has very short black hair that had been shaved in the past few weeks, said Clallam County Sheriff’s Sgt. Brian King.

When last seen, Ramirez-Matias was wearing a black hoodie sweatshirt and blue or black jeans, King said.

All of Ramirez-Matias’ vehicles have been accounted for, he said.

Anyone who knows of Ramirez-Matias’ whereabouts or sees him should call 9-1-1 immediately.

Konopaski died of multiple stab wounds at Forks Community Hospital just before 6 a.m. Sunday, after police were called to the couple’s home in Rainforest Mobile Home Park.

There was no history of police calls to the home for domestic violence, Klahn said.

However, investigators have uncovered evidence of a history of violence in the home, he said.

Klahn said Konopaski has a young daughter who is in the custody of state Child Protective Services.

Police believe Ramirez-Matias may be the girl’s father; they are working to confirm the relationship.

U.S. Border Patrol is investigating Ramirez-Matias’ citizenship or immigration status, he said.

The State Patrol and a Port Angeles Police Department canine unit are assisting the Forks police.
