QUILCENE — More than 200 people gathered at Quilcene School on Wednesday to remember Jason Michael Smith Sr., a 27-year-old Quilcene man who drowned last Thursday in Leavenworth.
He was killed while rafting alone down the Wenatchee River in Leavenworth.
Smith was testing the river in a four-person inflatable boat in preparation for his family to take the rapids the next day, his wife, Julie, recalled.
Smith also leaves behind two young sons, Jason Jr. and Jarod.
He was a model father and always up to a challenge, family members and friends recalled.
