Jefferson County Fire District No. 2 in Quilcene has instituted a burn ban.
Under the ban, all outdoor burning except for recreational fires is suspended until further notice. Cooking fires in contained barbecue units will be permitted, as well as recreational fires of less than three feet across.
Officials said the ban was instituted because of a high fire danger caused by recent hot, dry weather.
“It is hot out there,”‘ Quilcene Fire Chief Bob Wilson said.
All other fire districts, with the exception of Fire District No. 4 in Brinnon, have burn bans in effect throughout the summer. District No. 4 officials said Tuesday they were considering instituting a burn ban in the next several days.
