QUILCENE — A 16-year-old student is spearheading the effort to get voter support for a two-year, $480,000 maintenance and operations levy.
Registered voters in the Quilcene School District have until Feb. 5 to return their ballots to the Jefferson County Auditor’s office.
Chimacum High School student Andy Beeler is the chairman of Citizens for Quality Education, the group handing out fliers and giving speeches in support of the levy.
At venues like the Masonic Lodge and the Lions Club, Beeler has been telling people about the importance of the levy to the district, Beeler said.
If approved, the levy will provide money for the district’s athletic programs, fields trips, music programs and after-school clubs.
“Without it, there wouldn’t be any of that,” he said.
