QUILCENE — The state Department of Ecology has proposed removing Olympic Testing Lab from the state’s Hazardous Sites List.
The possible de-listing follows approximately four years of site cleanup.
Ecology officials are accepting public comment on the possible de-listing of Olympic Testing, located on Center Road.
Olympic Testing conducted small-scale metals refining and smelting — extracting silver and gold from ore — during 1981 and 1982, according to Ecology officials.
A May 1983 Ecology inspection turned up 40 drums containing potentially hazardous materials inside the building, a 12-foot-wide slag pile, four vats outside the building and lead contamination of surface soils allegedly due to spillage and dumping, Ecology records show.
