Jefferson County commissioners and staff pondered the effects of moving back dikes along the Big Quilcene River to fight recurring flooding problems.
Commissioner Glen Huntingford, R-Chimacum, said at Monday’s commissioners’ meeting in Port Townsend that the county has been using money from a federal grant to buy out property owners willing to move away from the river’s banks.

One property owner who has land listed as “for sale” can’t be reached, according to the county public works staff.
