QUILCENE — A candidate for a position on the Quilcene School Board has withdrawn from the race even though his name is still on the ballot.
Keith Meyer, a Quilcene chiropractor, filed May 16 for the Position 5 at-large seat and was unopposed until the next day, when Quilcene Village Store manager Greg Brotherton announced his candidacy.
No opposed races
With Meyer’s withdrawal, there are no opposed races for School Board, as Gary Rae was the only candidate for the District 2 seat.
After filing, Meyer talked with Brotherton, whom he said “is a little more available and more qualified than I am,” and said he did not realize Brotherton was going to run.
“I think this an important position, and I wanted to take it very seriously,” Meyer said.
“I feel like our goals for helping the community are in sync, so I am endorsing him.”
The election is Nov. 5, with ballots mailed out Oct. 17.
