QUILCENE — The Quilcene School District will be closed Friday because a fire alarm triggered sprinklers that destroyed all of the food in the school freezer this afternoon.
“If we don’t have food, we can’t feed the kids,” said Jim Betteley, school principal, tonight.
“We’ll have crews in here Friday, and hopefully get it fixed by Monday.”
The alarm was triggered at about 2:20 p.m., toward the end of the school day, when the sprinkler head in the freezer was activated.
A faulty fuse or some other cause triggered the alarm, said Quilcene Fire Chief Robert Low.
“There was no evidence of a fire,” Low said.
Betteley said the cause will be investigated Friday.
