QUILCENE – David Haakenson jokes about moving backwards by having a solar panel installed before building a permanent home.
He and his wife, Kathleen Kler – who relocated to the Lords Lake area from Bainbridge Island in August – take their dream of living a “green” lifestyle seriously.
“We see our solar panels as part of giving something back,” Haakenson said.
As he spoke, he sat in a temporary 120-square-foot cabin on an isolated hilltop that provides a spectacular view of the eastern Olympic Mountains.
About 100 feet away was the couple’s new 4.32 kilowatt ground panel, which is already saving them energy, Kler enthusiastically pointed out.
Representatives of Puget Sound Energy agree with Haakenson that the couple is giving back.
