LAPUSH — The Quileute will celebrate their history and heritage during Quileute Days today through Sunday.
The Royal Court will be crowned at 5 p.m. today during a pageant at the A-Ka-Lat Center on Ravencrest Loop in LaPush.
“There will be all sorts of things going on all weekend at the A-Ka-Lat Center, including teaching on canning fish, canning smoked fish, beading, contests and prizes,” said organizer Anna Rose Counsell, tribal treasurer.
An adult softball tournament will begin at 5 p.m. today, while stick games will start at 9 p.m.
“Stick games are a traditional Indian game,” said organizer Anna Rose Counsell, tribal treasurer.
“It is a form of competition, and it is open to the public.
“If someone doesn’t know how to play, they can come witness it and learn how to do it.”
She said it is hard to predict how long any given game will last.
“It could go 24 hours a day all the way through the night until Sunday, but there is no set time limit,” she said.
