FORKS — With the bid for homemade wild blackberry pie starting at $50 and some items fetching more than $1,500, the Quillayute Valley Scholarship Auction is wracking up thousands of dollars.
Everything from sports memorabilia to quilts and handmade toys auctioned this weekend will translate into scholarships for Forks High School and Quileute Tribal School graduates pursuing post-secondary education.
“I think that it’s absolutely overwhelming, the generosity of this community,” said Annie Carver, whose daughter Laila, 17, will graduate from Forks High School this year.
Carver was one of about 200 people — volunteers and spectators — who filled the Bank of America building on South Forks Avenue for the auction’s first day Saturday.
The auction continues from noon to 6 p.m. today at Bank of America, 481 S. Forks Ave.
