Rains close roads, trigger warnings

The heavy rain that began Saturday has resulted in several highway closures and warnings.

The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office has issued the following this morning:

• State Highway 112

is closed at Pysht Milepost 23. The alternate route is state Highway 101 to state Highway 113.

• Russell Road

in Forks closed.

• State Highway 110

was closed at Milepost 8.

• Ward Road

in Sequim has water over the roadway.

• Clallam County road crews are working on Mount Pleasant, Deer Park

and Township roads

.

• A Stage 3 alert was issued for the Elwha Dam

. Stage 3 is when water reaches 18 feet; the level was 19 feet when the alert was issued at 9:18 a.m. today.

• The forecast for flooding severity for the Dungeness

and Bogachiel rivers

was changed from minor to moderate, and a flood watch was upgraded to a flood warning, shortly before 9 a.m. today.

The heavy rain is expected to taper off to showers this afternoon, the Sheriff’s Office advisory said.

It warned that vehicles should not be driven through flooded areas.
