PORT ANGELES — The annual free Night to Shine, a prom for people with special needs ages 14 and older on the North Olympic Peninsula, will be Friday, Feb. 9.
Preregistration is required and space is limited to 125 guests, as well as 125 volunteers who will act as companions or buddies.
The prom will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Vern Burton Center, 308 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
The local event is in its second year. Hillcrest Baptist Church and The Crossing Church — with community partners Clallam Mosaic, Camp Beausite and Wilderness Escapes — will join more than 450 churches around the world to host the annual free Night to Shine, sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation.
Every guest of Night to Shine enters this complimentary event on a red carpet complete with a welcome from a friendly crowd and paparazzi.
Once inside, guests receive the royal treatment, including hair and makeup stations, shoe shining areas, corsages and boutonnieres, a catered dinner, dancing and prom favors, all leading up to the moment when each guest is crowned king or queen of the prom.
During the evening a Respite Room is provided for parents and caretakers complete with dinner and massages.
“This is an opportunity to celebrate our friends, neighbors and family members with special needs, a chance for them to dress up, have a night on the town and make friends and memories in a safe and fun setting,” said William Gullick, pastor at Hillcrest and chairman of the event.
