PORT ANGELES — Registration is open for the Hands on History essay contest sponsored by the North Olympic History Center.
The contest is open to any sixth- through 12th-grade student in Clallam County, including home-schooled students.
According to a press release, registration will close Thursday, Oct. 10.
The history center will hold a mandatory information session in October and the 1,500- to 2,500-word essays will be due by Thursday, March 26.
According to Kathe Smith, program co-chair, the center can help students decide on topics for their essays.
The center’s board of directors will award scholarships to winning writers upon high school graduation.
The center was previously known as the Clallam County Historical Society.
