Remembrance to honor tourism leader Diane Schostak set for May in Forks

FORKS — An afternoon of remembrance is planned Saturday, May 16, for the late Diane Schostak, former director of the Forks Chamber of Commerce and retired executive director of the Olympic Peninsula Visitor Bureau.

Schostak, a longtime Forks resident, died at the age of 59 on March 24 while visiting her daughter in Bakersfield, Calif.

She was being treated for stage 4 breast cancer.

The memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. at The Roundhouse at the Kitla Center in Forks, 100 LaPush Road, said Christina Pivarnik, the contracted director of marketing for the city of Port Townsend and a family friend, after she spoke with Schostak’s husband, Ken.

After the service, a potluck gathering is planned until 4:30 p.m. Guests are invited to bring a salad, side dish or dessert.

A sunset gathering at Rialto Beach is planned in Schostak’s honor. All are welcome.

“The Schostak family invites you to come and enjoy the opportunity to remember Diane for her beautiful spirit and appreciate all she gave to us as she touched our lives,” Pivarnik said in a news release.

A scholarship fund has been set up in Schostak’s name. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Peninsula College Foundation/Diane Schostak Memorial Fund, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles, WA 98362.

For questions regarding donations, call the Peninsula College Foundation office at 360-417-6246.

The tug was built for the U.S. Army at Peterson SB in Tacoma in 1944. Originally designated TP-133, it is currently named Island Champion after going through several owners since the army sold it in 1947. It is now owned by Debbie Wright of Everett, who uses it as a liveaboard.
