FORKS — The Quillayute Valley School Board will hear about the progress of restructuring the prekindergarten through eighth grades Tuesday.
The board will meet at 6 p.m. at Forks High School, 261 Spartan Ave.
A parent information meeting is planned at 6 p.m. Aug. 11. The location has not been announced.
In April, the board voted to shift grade levels to different buildings beginning in the 2014-15 school year to accommodate the expansion of the pre-K program that serves low-income children.
Forks Elementary School, 301 S. Elderberry Ave., previously included kindergarten through fifth grade. A pre-K school was located in two portable units behind the school.
The pre-K classes are being moved into the main building, and classroom space has expanded for two to four rooms.
The school will include pre-K to third-grade classrooms.
The former Forks Middle School, 121 Spartan Ave., which had included sixth through eighth grades, will be known as Forks Intermediate School, with students from the fourth through sixth grades.
New name
The newly named Forks Junior High School, formerly known as the Annex, is a mostly vacant six-classroom building located between the former middle school and Forks High School.
The building, used mostly for storage and office space, is being refurbished to house students in the seventh and eighth grades.
The junior high school students will continue to access the science and music wing of the intermediate school, and will use the Forks High School cafeteria for meals, but during different hours than the high school students.
