PORT ANGELES — Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney might have lost the Electoral College vote, but he carried Roosevelt Elementary School by eight votes.
Roosevelt Elementary teacher Sharon Fritschler and her second-grade students organized an all-school mock presidential election between President Barack Obama and Romney on Election Day on Tuesday.
Polls closed at 12:40 p.m., and second-graders tabulated the votes by counting in groups of 10.
The final tally was 205 votes for Obama and 213 for Romney.
The idea was to practice citizenship skills.
“Our slogan at school is ‘Every Vote Counts,’” Fritschler said, “and counting up ballots is the math extension of the mock election.
“We received election teaching guides and ‘I Voted’ stickers from the Office of the Secretary of State in Olympia, which were a great asset,” she added.
