Samaritan wishes he could have saved fire victim

CHIMACUM — The woman who died in a Wednesday house fire near Chimacum was identified Thursday, as was the man who rushed into the burning home in an attempt to save her.

“I just wish I had gotten there sooner,” said Gregory Bryant, who was passing by the burning home, ran inside and carried Sandra Joyce Bundy, 74, out of the flames.

“I should have just gotten there sooner,” Bryant told KING-TV (www.king5.com) in an interview aired Thursday night from Harborview Medical Center, where he is being treated for second- and third-degree burns to the arms and hands.

Jefferson County Undersheriff Tony Hernandez, who identified Mrs. Bundy on Thursday, said Bryant heroically dashed into the burning house and pulled her out.

Her longtime home near the corner of West Valley and Egg and I roads between Chimacum and Center was destroyed.
