PORT ANGELES — Save whose PUD from whom?
That’s what a retired veteran employee of the Clallam County Public Utility District wanted to know Monday about “Save Our PUD” signs that have popped up alongside those urging voters to re-elect PUD Commissioner Hugh Haffner.
Haffner’s opponent for the District 2 seat, Bob Jensen, said he, too, was curious about the messages.
Haffner, Jensen and Joanne Evans, the retiree, all attended Monday’s meeting of PUD commissioners where the announced main order of business was a public hearing on the district’s preliminary budget for 2009.
But Evans took advantage of the meeting’s public comment period to say the “Save” signs had “brought me a great deal of stress.”
Evans said she worked for the district 17 years before retiring as its records manager in 1996.
“Is the PUD in trouble?” she asked, “and what is the trouble?”
