Seattle ferry’s sudden pullout seen as business boon to Carlsborg-based bus line

No longer can travelers from Seattle take a ferry to Victoria to receive a guaranteed flu shot.

The Victoria Clipper ended the package deal Thursday because the Victoria clinic that had been providing the vaccine for ferry passengers could no longer guarantee a supply, said Darrell Bryan, executive vice president of Clipper Navigation Inc.

That doesn”t affect Carlsborg-based Royal Tours from transporting residents on and off the North Olympic Peninsula in its “Flu Shot Tour” bus, which is scheduled to run through at least Tuesday.

Royal Tours owner Kevin Harris said he plans to extend the bus run to Victoria today, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday for those who missed out on a flu shot on this side of the border.

Reservations for the trips are being taken at 888-381-1800, said Harris.

“The phone has been ringing off the hook,” he said Thursday morning during the first Flu Shot Tour to a Victoria vaccine clinic.

Harris, who rode the bus and received his first flu vaccination at the Victoria clinic, kept close tabs on Seattle-based Clipper Navigation’s announcement Thursday that it would discontinue its nationally publicized vaccine clinic voyages from Seattle to Victoria.

That could mean more business for Royal Tours, Harris said.
