Clallam County Humane Society workers and county animal control officers cannot accept volunteer help to care for approximately 30 cats seized earlier this month from a rural Sequim home.
That’s because of the potential spread of diseases the longhair Persian cats may have, said Lori Yarnes, Clallam County Sheriff’s Department animal control officer.
The felines were among 87 seized following a Dec. 10 search of Richard and Annette Bakay’s 1515 Olson Road home, court records show.
Forty-three of the seized cats have been euthanized and an additional 13 died, court records show.
Animal control officers, working with Port Angeles veterinarian Tev Barros, examined the cats and transferred the healthiest felines to the Humane Society for treatment.
