POULSBO — A semi driven by a Port Hadlock man slammed into four horses walking on a dark state Highway 3 early Friday morning. Three of the four horses were killed.
The State Patrol said a 1985 Peterbilt semi driven by Christopher Holmes, 27, was northbound on Highway 3 about 4 miles north of Poulsbo between 2:30 a.m. and 3 a.m. and was unable to stop the big rig before hitting the horses that were in the road.
The fourth horse was taken to a veterinary hospital with serious injuries, the State Patrol reported.
Troopers said animals in the roadway caused the incident, and that no charges or citations will be issued against Holmes, who was reportedly uninjured.
A press memo issued by the State Patrol did not identify the owner or owners of the horses.
