SEQUIM — It’s not the first time Bell Creek has been jostled out of position, and it likely won’t be the last.
Construction crews are busy re-routing a 600-foot length of the creek running behind Les Schwab Tire Co. between East Washington and Cedar streets Sequim.
And while moving a body of water might sound like an environmental quagmire, it’s actually good for the fish who swim there, said Public Works Director Jim Bay.
“The crews will be doing a little bit of landscaping and sealing the creek bed so we don’t lose what little water runs through Bell Creek,” Bay said Tuesday.
“They’ll also be putting trees near the banks — and that will keep the water temperature down, which will provide shade for the habitat.”
The project has been two years in coming, sought by Les Schwab corporate officers as a way to free up space on their lot and expand their parking. The company is paying the cost to move the creek.
