SEQUIM – The boom is on again at both ends of Sequim.
Two major public projects are funded by private companies: the road skirting the Solana subdivision south of U.S. Highway 101 and the roundabout – a traffic circle – in front of Costco Wholesale.
The new road on Sequim’s east side is being funded by Solana’s developer, Jerrold Hann of Whidbey Island.
It will extend Brownfield Road to Simdars Road, which links to the Olympic Discovery Trail on the north side of the highway.
Building the 36-foot-wide road with curbs, gutters and landscaping “was part of the conditions of approval for Solana,” said James Bay, city public works director.
Hann and partner John Cannon of Seattle bought 145 acres of hillside for $1.45 million in 2004 and named it Solana. They advertise it as “the land for sun-lovers.”
Homes sell for $385,000 to $600,000, and Solana Highlands’ half-acre lots, above the houses, go for about a quarter-million dollars each.
