SEQUIM — The mural on the former Lehman’s grocery store has to be moved.
John Lebowitz, the Maine man who recently purchased the property in the 100 block of East Washington Street, said on Friday he has an engineer’s report which says the wall holding the mural needs to be strengthened in order to meet seismic codes.
And part of the mural wall would have to be replaced, the report says.
According to Lebowitz, the report says it would cost twice as much to install another wall inside the one holding the mural as a fix to the seismic problem.
The mural, which covers all 135 feet of the wall facing Washington Street as well as part of a wall in an alcove, comprises images of people who are part of the Sequim-Dungeness Valley’s history.
