SEQUIM — Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce board members voted Wednesday to cut their ties with a mural painted on the Lehman’s Grocery building.
Chamber members voted unanimously to leave a decision on removing the mural in the hands of John Lebowitz, who recently purchased the building at 145 E. Washington St. from the Lehman family.
But the chamber board still has to decide what to do with $10,000 donated by Lebowitz and Chuck Lehman for moving the painting.
The board is expected to discuss having mural artist Kim Kopp of Port Townsend oversee the funds and the mural’s removal.
The mural must be moved because an engineering study determined the wall it is painted on does not meet current seismic codes, Lebowitz has said.
