SEQUIM — It’s billed as a national community beautification program, but the judges who hand out awards for the annual America in Bloom contest are looking for more than just aesthetics.
That’s why a host of Sequim officials, staff and business owners feel pretty good about having made a strong showing in the 2003 program, earning three out of five blooms — or points — in the category of cities with populations of 5,000 or fewer.
“It was a real group effort, and it turned out beautifully,” said City Clerk Karen Kuznek, who spearheaded the effort.
America in Bloom is a national nonprofit organization which encourages communities to strive toward beautification, cleanliness and cultural preservation through joint efforts by government, businesses and citizens.
