SEQUIM — The City Council is still trying to reach a decision on where to spend $230,000 set aside for the continuing construction of the Olympic Discovery Trail — and for now, at least, residents along a stretch of East Fir Street are relieved that it probably won’t be in their front yards.
The council on Wednesday discussed the matter in front of an audience of more than 30 — the most well-attended session since the June 25 land-use appeal and public comment hearing over a proposed regional shopping center in the city’s west end.
Attendees didn’t have an opportunity to speak to the council Wednesday, but many have made their concerns known to members over the three-year period the issue has been bandied about.
“We can only hope they’ll look at other options,” said Beatrice Hoffman, a Fir Street resident who staunchly opposes converting her street into a portion of the Olympic Discovery Trail.
