SEQUIM — It’s long been known as a mecca of floral splendor, but the city this year is in the running for a national award bestowed by an organization dedicated to recognizing communities which put their best environmental foot forward.
Sequim will compete in late July with five similarly sized cities around the country in a competition sponsored by America in Bloom, a nonprofit organization modeled after its Canadian counterpart, Communities in Bloom.
No other cities in Washington are participating.
To hype the competition, City Clerk Karen Kuznek and Jim Bay, the city’s public works director, presented a slide show Tuesday to members of the Sequim-Dungeness Chamber of Commerce.
