SEQUIM — A confusing issue of public-road jurisdiction will likely be cleared up early next week when the City Council and Clallam County commissioners place most of Priest Road within the city limit.
The transfer does not affect property along Priest, but just the street’s rights of way.
And that is expected to clear up jurisdictional confusion as a Wal-Mart “supercenter” rises at Priest Road and Washington Street.
The narrow road running between Brackett and Hendrickson roads is contained within land in Sequim’s designated urban growth area.
But when the city annexed portions of properties in the Priest Road area during the 1980s, there was no legal requirement for roads to be included.
The City Council on Wednesday agreed to new contractual language that would adjust the boundary line of the Priest Road corridor.
“The council said, ‘Let’s just do it,”‘ City Manager Bill Elliott said Thursday.
