SEQUIM — Real estate broker Carroll French was having fun buying commemorative pins and buttons during the recent kickoff dinner for the Sequim Irrigation Festival when he thought it would be fun to send a card from the community to his son, Doug, and other troops stationed in Iraq.
He mentioned his idea to the royal court, and it blossomed.
“They’ve taken the idea and ran with it,” French said Wednesday. “They were really enthusiastic about it.”
Members of the festival’s court have taken the book to civic and government meetings as well as standing outside local stores offering people the chance to add their names.
The card has grown into a book filled with hundreds of signatures and notes of good wishes and hurry homes in less than two weeks.
