SEQUIM — There were two cougar sightings Wednesday on the east side of Sequim Bay and residents there are being urged to take precautions to protect themselves while the predator is in the area.
The sightings occurred on Rhapsody Drive and East Mindy Lane, adjacent streets off East Sequim Bay Road north of Blyn.
Both sightings were likely of a single animal, which was described as a reddish-furred cub that weighed about 50 pounds.
The Clallam County Sheriff’s Department and the state Department of Fish and Wildlife have been informed of the sightings.
It is not known if the cougar is merely passing through or if it intends to stay in the area.
For now, people need to stay alert when they’re outside.
