SEQUIM — A Sequim-area man has found what some believe may be the tusk of an Ice Age imperial mammoth in the waters of Sequim Bay.
Rick Guenthner was strolling along the beach about a half-mile north of Marlyn Nelson County Park at Port Williams last week when he saw what looked like a large bone.
He called Richard Dobbs, a Sequim archeology enthusiast who also claims to have made a discovery related to mammoths — another tusk found near Dungeness in 1994.
Dobbs organized a search party for Saturday, when six people spent hours digging down about a 1½ feet into the sand to unearth the tusk.
