SEQUIM — An ad hoc committee studying design standards for retail buildings with more than 25,000 square feet of space received guidelines from individual City Council members Monday night.
The issue is especially ticklish in the wake of two controversial proposals for regional shopping centers made recently.
“I urge the ad hoc committee to be careful with ideas that can be taken more than one way,” Mayor Walt Schubert said. “Make specific recommendations.”
The committee is comprised of Councilman John Beitzel, former Councilwoman Trina Berg, Forest Faulkner, Allan Goff, Lisa Hovstvedt, Planning Commissioner Troye Jarmuth, Debra Hanson-Keeting, Mike McAleer and Jadyne Reichner.
Public Works Director Jim Bay and Planning Director Dennis Lefevre provided staff leadership.
The council’s comments Monday night followed a public hearing on the interim design standards.
