SEQUIM — He’s not exactly a chauffeur, but when Bob Hough is transporting elderly people to doctor’s appointments, grocery stores and other essential services, it’s a rewarding way to help out the community.
“I call it ‘Driving Miss Daisy,'” Hough said from his living room Thursday afternoon.
Between playing taxi for non-drivers, stocking shelves at the Sequim Food Bank and delivering books to shut-ins, Hough and his wife, Evelyn, caught the attention of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution’s local chapter, earning the organization’s community service award for 2003.
“We were just impressed. They don’t do just one thing, but they do so much,” said Susan Hahn, publicity chair for the organization’s Michael Trebet chapter, representing Clallam County.
The Houghs will receive the award at a ceremony at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Oak Table Cafe, 292 W. Bell St..
