Sequim fastest-growing city on North Olympic Peninsula

Sequim is the fastest growing city on the North Olympic Peninsula.

The U.S. Census Bureau’s population estimate for July 1, 2007, which was released Thursday, said that Sequim grew by almost 32 percent since the 2000 census, from 4,522 people to 5,951.

The city of Port Angeles declined slightly in size while the combined population of Clallam and Jefferson counties fell short of 100,000 people, the federal census said.

According to the estimate, Port Angeles decreased in size by eight people from 2006 to 2007 and had a population of 18,789 people.

Clallam County grew by 758 people between 2006 and 2007 and had a population of 70,474 people —which is also an increase of about 10 percent over 2000.

The combined populations of Clallam and Jefferson counties reached 99,673 people in 2007, according to the estimate.

Port Townsend had a population of 9,069 people, with an additional 14 people moving to the city that year, and Forks has remained at just above 3,200 people since 2000.
