Sequim: Father/coach’s dream come true

SEQUIM — Usually it’s a coach’s dream to mentor his son or daughter at the high school level.

For Sequim boys soccer coach Dave Brasher, it was a dream worth waiting nine years for — he has double the pleasure with two sons to coach.

Brasher took the prep job nine years ago because of the possibility of coaching both sons later. But it wasn’t an easy decision.

“I took the job before I really wanted it,” he said.

But he couldn’t pass up the opportunity in case it didn’t come up later. And now he and his family are glad that he made the decision.

Brasher, his two standout sons and the rest of the talented Sequim roster has propelled the Wolves to the Nisqually League soccer championship and a berth in the sub-district playoffs starting Tuesday at home against Lakes of Lakewood.

The do-or-die game starts at 7 p.m.

The fact that the coach and his two sons are a big part of what is turning out to be one of the best years for the Sequim Wolves just helps make this a special year for the Brasher family.

Senior Vann Brasher is considered by some to be the best player in the Nisqually League, while sophomore Noah Brasher may receive the same high praise by the time he graduates in 2006.
