SEQUIM — The last round of pre-trial hearings concluded Wednesday in a land-use appeal challenging the construction of a regional shopping center near West Washington Street and Priest Road.
Clallam County Superior Court Judge George Wood heard testimony from attorneys representing the city of Sequim, citizens group Sequim First and AVB Development Partners, an Arizona developer proposing a 395,000-square-foot center to include a Home Depot home improvement outlet and possibly a Target department store.
Wood denied Sequim First attorney Gerald Steel’s request to admit into the case record a full transcript of a videotape produced at a June 23 City Council appeals hearing.
Following that hearing, the council voted to uphold City Planning Director Dennis Lefevre’s decision to issue a preliminary site construction permit for Wal-Mart.
Sequim First is seeking court-ordered environmental impact statements on both projects prior to permitting.
