SEQUIM — A pickup was destroyed when it caught fire in a parking lot at 1205 W. Washington St. on Friday, said a Sequim fire department spokesman.
Firefighters with the Sequim fire department responding to the 11:50 a.m. call found flames and smoke coming from the engine and passenger compartments of a late-model Ford F-250.
Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire, Young said, after having to use a power saw to disengage the hood latch because of heat damage to the mechanism.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation but may not be able to be determined,” Young said.
The vehicle and the contents inside the passenger compartment were destroyed, he said.
No one was hurt. The owner had parked the vehicle and then noticed the fire, Young said.
Other vehicles parked near the fire were safely moved away, he added.
