SEQUIM — In a move that came off like a bombshell in the Transit Center, the Sequim City Council voted on Monday to fire City Manager Bill Elliott after almost eight years of service.
At the start of the council’s morning study session, Erik Erichsen, one of four new members elected last November, called an executive session to discuss “personnel issues.”
Upon emerging, Erichsen said, “I no longer believe Bill Elliott is the appropriate person to manage the city.”
Councilman Paul McHugh demanded an explanation.
Erichsen said that when he arrived in city government, he found inadequate job descriptions for department heads, “no goals or standards tied to performance” and too little progress on problems such as where to put a new City Hall.
