SEQUIM — A group supporting construction of a shooting park in Clallam County wants the city to pay $135,000 for lost revenue because of rules imposed by Police Chief Byron Nelson at a gun show in April.
The monetary claim, filed last week by the Pacific Northwest Shooting Park Association, is a precursor to a potential lawsuit.
In its claim, the shooting park group alleges Nelson’s rules and other actions caused the fund-raising event to fail.
The shooting group, through its president, Louis A. Huber, claims Nelson violated state law in allowing only licensed dealers to sell guns during the show.
Neither Nelson nor City Manager Bill Elliott could be reached for comment Monday.
But Nelson previously defended his actions and said they were legal and supported by City Attorney Craig Ritchie.
Nelson also said previously that licensed dealers were allowed to buy and sell weapons during the show.
