SEQUIM: Irrigation Festival gets under way

>

SEQUIM — A chilly wind off the Strait of Juan de Fuca couldn’t keep the crowds away from the opening weekend of the 106th Sequim Irrigation Festival on Saturday.

Nearly 400 children with costumes, decorated wagons, bicycles, tricycles and even a pony-drawn cart, participated in the traditional Kiddies’ Parade in the Sequim High School Stadium.

The 160-plus member Sequim Middle School Marching Band, under the direction of David Upton, highlighted the parade. As the band played John Williams’ “Star Wars Theme,” it led the colorful procession on two laps around the track.

Following the parade, participants were joined by several hundred more children for the seventh annual Festival on the Field.

They were treated to a variety of activities including face painting, arts and crafts, an animal petting zoo, cup stackers and a glue-in.

The full Irrigation Festival schedule appears on a link back on the main page of this Web site.
