SEQUIM — If you visit Sequim’s public library, you have 0.64 square feet all to yourself.
That’s North Olympic Library System Director George Stratton’s estimate, based on the 6,000-square-foot library and the number of people who’ve used it in the past three years.
And if you think that’s tight, wait till Sequim’s urban growth area gains a few thousand more library users.
Two options exist for the expansion of the 24-year-old library at 630 N. Sequim Ave., said Stratton and Friends of the Sequim Library President Suzi Schmidt.
The newer option, advanced by Schmidt: Build a 14,450-square-foot library behind the old one.
The other, discussed in recent months: Constructing a bigger building at the civic center, which may take shape some five years from now on land east of Sequim Avenue and north of U.S. Highway 101.
Stratton called both proposals desirable, adding that enlarging the Sequim branch “is at the top of my list.”
