SEQUIM — Sequim resident Vincent Bluthenthal, 47, was released Monday morning from Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he had been airlifted after suffering head injuries in a Saturday afternoon car wreck.
Bluthenthal is a Coast Guard petty officer first class serving at Air Station/Sector Field Office Port Angeles.
His son, Kelly, 12, also was airlifted to Harborview as a precaution. He was treated and released Saturday.
Four members of the Bluthenthal family were injured when their small car was hit from behind by a sport utility vehicle near Port Hadlock about 2 p.m. Saturday, said State Patrol Trooper Matt Phillips.
Vincent Bluthenthal had stopped the family’s Honda Civic in the northbound lane of state Highway 19, just south of Port Hadlock, preparing to make a left turn onto Anderson Lake Road.
While the Bluthenthals were waiting for a chance to turn, a Chevy Tahoe driven by Matthew A. Orr, 40, of Seattle, hit their car from behind and pushed it into a telephone pole, Phillips said.
The other passengers in the Honda SEmD Diana Bluthenthal, 47, and Cameron Bluthenthal, 14 SEmD were also injured.
They were taken to Jefferson Healthcare hospital in Port Townsend and were treated and released.
Vincent Bluthenthal was in serious condition as late as Sunday afternoon.
Orr, the driver of the second vehicle, and his three passengers were not injured.
Both drivers and all passengers in the vehicles were wearing seat belts, Phillips said.
There was no suspicion of drugs or alcohol, he said.
There were no tickets issued at the scene, pending investigation of the collision, said Trooper Krista Hedstrom, State Patrol spokeswoman.
