SEQUIM — An 82-year-old Sequim man was uninjured Tuesday when the sport utility vehicle he was driving crashed into the doors at the east entrance to Safeway supermarket on East Washington Street.
The damaged doors were replaced by Wednesday morning but were cordoned off, and a glass panel next to the doors was boarded up.
Sequim police spokeswoman Maris Turner declined to identify the man, who told officers that he hit the gas instead of the brake and that he “couldn’t stop in time” while driving in front of the east entrance of the supermarket.
The 1988 Chevy Blazer he was driving sustained minimal damage and was driven away from the scene.
Turner said the value of the damage to the store was not known Wednesday.
