SEQUIM — More than 250 people filled Guy Cole Convention Center on Monday to hear arguments presented to the City Council on why Wal-Mart shouldn’t be allowed to build a large “superstore.”
Six hours of testimony continued into the night.
But the session to hear appeals filed by three parties against the city’s preliminary approval of the Wal-Mart project last April almost didn’t begin.
Two City Council members recused themselves due to possible conflicts of interest, another council member, John Beitzel, was absent — and Mayor Walt Schubert was challenged by an appellant over an alleged conflict of interest.
