SEQUIM — Sequim Middle School held a practice drill Friday using a scenario that a call had been received reporting a bomb had been planted in the building.
Starting at 1:10 p.m., middle school office staff acted as if the threatening phone call had been received.
The staff assessed the mock situation, called 9-1-1 and started a school evacuation, according to Superintendent Garn Christensen.
All staff and students were out of the middle school by 1:20 p.m. and reassembled at Sequim High School.
Sequim police secured the middle school building by 1:40 p.m. and called an end to the drill and students returned to class.
“The drill provided training for what school and city officials hope will never occur,”‘ said Sequim School District resources and information coordinator Annette Hanson in a press release.
“It tested the district’s and emergency responders’ evacuation procedures from start to finish.”
