SEQUIM — Sequim Aquatic and Recreation Center officials asked Clallam County commissioners Monday to change the name of its governing agency — Park and Recreation District No. 1 — to “SARC.”
“Everybody knows us as SARC,” aquatic center commissioner Chairman Bill Black.
Black and fellow aquatic center Commissioner Bill Hixson requested the name change to prevent voter confusion during an upcoming maintenance and operations levy election.
Aquatic center officials have blamed the last levy attempt failure in part on confusion because the ballot title only included the official name.
County commissioners supported the move, but are uncertain of any timeline because they didn’t know if a public hearing is required to change the name of the taxing district.
